The Crownlands
The Crownlands are the heart of Valentia, the administrative and agricultural core from which the Kingdom is governed. They are defined by river trade, vast farmlands, and the dense bureaucracy that radiates out of the capital at Goldmere.
What makes the region distinct is constancy. The Crownlands draw on the supernatural fertility of Brightsong and the Ever-Fields, so the roads stay passable and the rivers largely unfrozen even in deep winter. Agriculture and trade never stop, and because they never stop, neither does the Crown's oversight. The Crownlands Circuit runs year-round, where the northern Circuit must halt for the freeze.
That perennial administration shapes the people as much as the land. There is no winter cessation here, no season in which the law withdraws and a town is left to govern itself. The South lives under continuous procedure, its life reliant on, and constrained by, centralised authority that is always present and always counting. Where the North's isolation breeds independence, the Crownlands' fertility breeds a population deeply habituated to the ledger.
The result is the engine room of the Administrative Era. Grain, river barges, tax returns, and Circuit reports all flow through the Crownlands toward Goldmere, where they are filed and made permanent. It is the most governed place in Ardynia, and the most comfortable, which in Valentian thinking are the same thing.
