The Southern Reach
- Location: The southern coast of Dagoneth, cut off from the interior by the southern arm of the central mountain range.
- Geography: A vast, flat arable plain running from the foothills to the sea, larger than Valentia's Ever-Fields and the single greatest zone of supernatural fertility in the world.
- Access: Reachable from the Dagonethian interior only through one wide valley that cleaves the mountains, the artery for the entire nation's food supply.
The Southern Reach is the miracle that saved Dagoneth. In the Age of Chaos the people were a starving coastal conclave, locked out of these plains by the peaks. Dagonethian faith holds that the Marran Order revealed the Valley Corridor and led them through it in the event remembered as the Great Opening, turning a dying nation into the agricultural powerhouse of the continent. The Marran Stabilization holds the soil of Sunreach in permanent yield, and the Reach feeds the realm.
Its geography is also its vulnerability. A single corridor connects the food to the nation that eats it, which means the entire Dagonethian supply runs through one pass. The capital lies far to the north, so everything grown here must travel the Long Haul, preserved and hauled across the mountains to reach the people who depend on it.
That arrangement defines the Dagonethian temperament. A nation whose survival passes through one valley learns discipline, hierarchy, and a permanent low-grade dread of the line being cut. The Southern Reach is abundance and anxiety in the same place, the source of Dagoneth's strength and the location of its single deepest fear.
