At a Glance

  • Location: The western expanse of Dagoneth, on the inland waters of Lake Dagon.
  • Geography: A massive freshwater lake ringed by rugged, forested terrain that serves as a natural fortress.
  • Significance: The seat of Dagonethian power, where resource distribution is decided and the doctrines of the Covenant are upheld.

The West is where Dagoneth's founding myth comes to rest. When the figure known as Dagon led his followers out of the Wild Lands in the brutal crossing remembered as Dagon's March, he judged the open southern plains undefendable and pushed north until he reached the shores of an inland sea. There he raised a spiritual fortress, and the nation took both its name and its character from him. The lake is Dagon; so is the fortress city on its shore.

The terrain explains the politics. Ringed by forest and water, the West is a natural stronghold, and a people forged by a desperate exodus built a stronghold's culture: rigid, hierarchical, certain that order is the only thing standing between them and the chaos they fled. This is the home of the Sentinel Mindset in its governing form.

It is also the spiritual core of the realm. Here the Dual Stewardship operates as designed, the nobility defending the borders and the Marran Church guiding the harvest, the two standing as pillars of equal height rather than crown and subject. The West is the valve that decides how the nation's hard-won abundance is distributed, and the place where the Covenant's authority is least negotiable.
