The Victims

• Identity: The men and women processed by the Architect's Sanatorium.

The Victims are the human cost of the Sanatorium's "perfect system." They are drawn from couriers, soldiers, and ordinary travellers who vanished on the roads and were never reported missing in any way the Crown's ledgers could catch. Inside the facility they cease to be people and become resources, catalogued as inventory and drained to power the operation.

Their horror is not in how they die but in how they are accounted for. The Architect does not hate them; he processes them, the way a clerk processes a return. Names that belong to this number include the courier Hargan, the soldier Corporal Henty, and the baker's son Elias Vane. To name them at all is an act of resistance against a system built to make them disappear without a trace, which is why the destruction of the Architect's ledger matters as much as the destruction of the man.
