The Eternal Flame Academy is a loose collective of mages who reject the prevailing view of magic as either divine infrastructure or licensed hazard. Its members pursue what they call the New Math: an entropic theory that treats arcane effect as the manipulation of physics and probability rather than the recitation of mystic formulae. Where the Crown Ministries of Valentia certify casters and confiscate focus objects, the Academy works in the language of variables, thermal expansion, and kinetic force.

The discipline is fringe, and deliberately so. Practitioners describe their work in equations, not incantations, and tolerate a level of volatility that licensed casters would never accept. To a New Math scholar, a failed experiment is data; to the Crown, it is a fire that needs a permit.
That tolerance for risk gives the Academy its reputation and its danger. Its members understand the mechanics of magic more deeply than most sanctioned mages, but they carry none of the institutional caution that keeps arcane practice survivable. The result is a body of knowledge that is genuinely advanced and genuinely unsafe, held by people who find the distinction between the two academically uninteresting.
