The Realm of Dagoneth
Political Definition
A multi-tiered hierarchy of lineages and monastic orders built on the concept of Dual Stewardship. Unlike the secular consolidation of Valentia, Dagoneth is a nation where the line between state authority and religious guidance is fundamentally blurred.
• Nobility & The Order: Governance is shared between the High Stewardship (the noble houses) and the Chauntean Order. The nobility provides the "Sword" (physical protection and infrastructure), while the Order provides the "Sheaf" (agricultural vitalization and spiritual stability). • The Covenant: Dagonethian law is not a set of administrative procedures, but a collection of Covenants—deep, unbreakable agreements between the people, the state, and the land. To break a covenant is viewed not just as a crime, but as a threat to the nation's spiritual anchor.
Governance Structure
The nation is structured as a vertical hierarchy of responsibility centered in the capital, Dagon:
- The High Stewardship: The supreme council of noble families, currently led by the House Trellivar. They oversee the defense of the borders and the maintenance of the Valley Corridor.
- The Chauntean Order (Western Seat): Headquartered in the massive cathedral-complexes within Dagon. They manage the fertility of the Southern Reach and provide the moral framework for law.
- The Wardens of the Wilds: A specialized branch of the military responsible for patrolling the buffer zones between the stabilized "Covenant Land" and the entropic "Wild Land" of the midlands.
- The Parish Houses: Local seats of authority where a noble steward and a Chauntean priest work in tandem to manage the needs of smaller settlements.
Cultural Philosophy
Dagonethian culture is defined by the "Sentinel Mindset."
