Kelrun’s Landing
At a Glance
• Type: Coastal Settlement / Eastern Port
• Location: Situated on the far eastern coast of the Northern District, where the river empties into the bay. It lies east of the Glacisse Estate and serves as a terminal point for river trade before it reaches the open sea.
• Description: A working-class town defined by "whitewashed ice" and the smell of wet timber, old pitch, and gutted fish. The architecture consists of crooked lines of warehouses and homes with sagging roofs, glazed with frost for much of the year.
◦ Atmosphere: It is a place of hard bargains and sensory sharpness—the air carries a dry, metallic note of early winter. The town feels utilitarian, built to service the river traffic rather than to impress visitors.
◦ Glacisse Connection: Despite its roughness, the local temple features Glacisse Glass windows—clear, carefully set, and maintained over generations, a testament to the region's long-standing trade relationships.
Key Infrastructure & Geography
• The River Bend: The river narrows in a slow arc as it approaches the town, funneling the current. This geography makes the landing susceptible to early freezes. An ice shelf frequently forms here before the rest of the river solidifies, creating a "choke point" that threatens seasonal shipping.
• The Split Docks: The waterfront is operationally divided, often leading to jurisdictional friction:
◦ North Dock: Managed by Dockmaster Jorren Hale (a broad man with a scarred jaw).
◦ South Dock: Managed by Dockmaster Emlin Sarthe (leaner, sharper, and resentful of shared burdens).
Strategic Significance
Kelrun's Landing is a flashpoint for the logistical anxiety of the North. Because it freezes early, it dictates the end of the shipping season. A delay here backs up trade all the way to Haleport. It was the site of Lucien Glacisse’s first major intervention as an envoy, where he forced the rival dockmasters to cooperate to clear a blockage, establishing the precedent that "pride can stay untouched in the paperwork."
