Haleport
At a Glance
• Type: Fjord City / Northern Administrative Seat
• Location: Built directly into the steep limestone cliffs of the northern coast, where the primary northern river empties into the frozen sea.
◦ Strategic Position: Haleport is the logistical anchor for the entire Northern District. It acts as the funnel for all resources moving from the northern interior (Darkswell) to the southern trade routes. Because of the steep terrain, the city is vertical rather than sprawling, connected by a complex system of stone stairs and winch-elevators.
• Description: A city defined by "river chill"—a wet, metallic cold that clings to the stone. The architecture is heavy and defensive, designed to withstand coastal gales and heavy snow. Unlike the white plaster of the south, Haleport is built of grey granite and slate.
◦ The Magistrate’s Hall: The seat of the Northern Magistrate. It sits at the highest point of the lower harbor, overseeing the docks not just administratively, but physically.
• Function:
◦ The Glass Trade: Haleport is the primary export hub for Glacisse Glass and other high-value northern manufactures.
◦ Bureaucratic Outpost: It serves as the "Capital of the North," offering a fully functional (if colder and harder) mirror of Goldmere’s legal system, ensuring Crown law holds sway even when winter closes the roads to the south.
