Where House Glacisse trades on artistry and material science, Trellivar trades on flow: the movement of grain and goods along the northern sea routes and across the Valentian border. As the primary supplier of winter stores to the northern Valentian territories, the house has made itself a necessity, and necessity is the foundation of its political immunity.

Its reputation rests on smuggling dressed as bureaucratic error: weight discrepancies, mislabelled manifests, the patient exploitation of an "honest shortage." It prefers silence to spectacle, keeping high-quality legal counsel and quieter instruments on hand to ensure that problems, and occasionally people, vanish without disrupting commerce.

Its grip on Valentia is not only commercial. The house holds the debt on Valentia's southern expansion, leverage that predates the present crisis and goes a long way toward explaining why no Valentian magistrate has yet moved against it. To call the debt would shatter the Valentian market, so the Crown tolerates what it cannot afford to confront.
